Opening statement
After watching the video of the game, it played out the way we thought it did live. The guys played hard start to finish, lot of energy. You don't win games just on Saturday's, I think what you do the week before. Offensively, whenever you can score that many points, 55 points, you've got a good chance to win, simple as that. Reggie Corbin, outstanding. Whenever you're the Big Ten player of the week, it kind of says a lot with all the good offensive players in the conference. In order for that to happen, the offensive line has to do a great job, and they did. Of course led by Nick Allegretti. Our seniors' last Dad's day, pretty special. Special to see the father's walk over with their sons, to enjoy the pregame activities. And that pressure of knowing your dad is there watching, that can motivate you. Offensive line played well, but it starts with the quarterback too. AJ will tell you he'd like to have a play back, but beyond that, running the ball, and of course throwing it. We can talk the rest of the day about what we were able to do offensively, but that's what its supposed to look like. Defensively, the guys really showed up. Lots of improvement, and we needed to. Guys took it to heart what happened the week before. Up front, set the tempo. Linebackers, they played outstanding ball. The secondary when they were called upon played outstanding football as well. Disappointing when you give up a couple big plays at the end of the game, but that's not who we are and we'll keep working on that. Special teams, of course Chase did a good job, kickoff team also. Had a few injuries, of course Kenyon Jackson. Whenever you can't finish the game there's concern, so we'll continue to evaluate him. Minnesota has been playing pretty good football, so it's good to get that second Big Ten win. But it's on, now, to Nebraska, a team that's been playing very good football as of late. They played an outstanding game against Ohio State, we know what's at stake. Whenever you go on the road, that's a tough duty, especially in an environment like that, but we're ready for it.
On defensive play against Minnesota
We didn't just start playing defense this week. We've been involved, they (players) have been involved. This week we executed a lot better. It's not like we started from scratch this past week. Guys locked in this week… Whether we talk d-line, linebackers, or secondary, I thought all three groups showed up.
On Tony Adams performance at safety
He'll be called upon of course to help out with the pass, especially deep, and he did a good job with that. He was called upon to make a lot of tackles, and Tony did an excellent job. Tackles for loss, great open-field tackles. We're different having a player like him.
On impact of the crowd in Saturday's win
I thought our home crowd was outstanding. We heard it and the opponent heard it. Sometimes you don't know how many people are really behind you, that really believe, and they let it be known.
On the program moving forward
Records aside, we're trending in the right direction, and we've been that way for a while. It's good to get a win. As I talk about the process, that's what we're going through. Eventually, you get over the hump, and you start winning consistently. That's what we're going to do, try not to look in the past too much. It's just about the future for us, and the future is very bright.
