Fighting Illini alums Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry carried Belgium to its first ISPS Handa World Cup Title over the holiday weekend.

The two former Illini held a five-stroke lead over the tournament field heading into the final round of play. The duo fired a final-round score of 4-under par to stay ahead of Australia and Mexico, and win the tournament by three strokes.

Pieters and Detry started out with a 9-under par first-round score, sitting in a three-way tie for fourth, just one shot out of the tournament lead.

The pair climbed to the top of the leaderboard with a strong second round, battling tough weather conditions at Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.
