CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois volleyball team was selected as the No. 3 national seed in the 2018 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championships, making its 25th appearance in program history and will be hosting the First and Second Rounds of the tournament in Huff Hall on Friday and Saturday (November 30-December 1).
Louisville (21-8, 14-4 ACC) and Dayton (23-7, 12-2 A-10) will face off in the first match on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT, followed by the Illini (28-3, 17-3 B1G) taking on Eastern Michigan (21-13, 9-7 MAC) at 7 p.m. CT. The winner of each match will advance to the second round on Saturday. Match time is TBA for Saturday.
Should the Illini advance out of the first weekend of tournament action, UI would host one of four regionals, slated for December 7-8, with matches also held at Huff Hall.
General admission all-session ticket packages will go on sale on Monday (November 26) at 9 a.m. CT and will include a ticket for all First and Second Round matches. All single-session tickets will go on sale on Thursday (November 29) at 9 a.m. Season ticket holders will have an exclusive period where they will have priority access to reserved all-session tickets beginning Monday at 9 a.m. CT.
Tickets will be available in person at the west lobby of State Farm Center Monday-Thursday at 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., over the phone by calling 866-ILLINI-1, or via FIGHTINGILLINI.com.
Illinois is making its ninth postseason appearance in the last 11 seasons and is 40-24 all-time and 28-4 at home in postseason play. The No. 3 seed also marks the 17th occasion that the Illini have earned a national seed and is the highest seeding since Illinois earned the No. 3 seed in 2011.
The Big Ten earned the second-most bids with seven to this season's tournament, with the seven selections marking the 26th time in as many years that at least six Big Ten teams have been selected to the tournament. Big Ten champion Minnesota joins the Illini as a top-four seed after being selected as the No. 2 overall seed, while No. 6 Wisconsin, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 8 Penn State, Purdue and Michigan joined the Illini in receiving at-large bids to the tournament.
