LAHAINA, Hawaii – The guard trio of Ayo Dosunmu (19 pts), Trent Frazier (18 pts) and Aaron Jordan (16 points) led the way for the Fighting Illini in an 83-74 loss to Xavier on the final day of the 2018 Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
The up-tempo game was back-and-forth in the first half, with the Musketeers taking a slim 43-41 lead into half time, but Xavier pulled away in the second half and out-rebounded Illinois 37-25 for the game.
The Illini led 47-45 early in the second half after back-to-back threes by Dosunmu and the game was tied at 50 with 16:24 to play, but it was all Xavier from there. Illinois has now lost four straight games after a season-opening win over Evansville.
Quentin Godwin led the Musketeers with 15 points.
