Hello Illini softball fans!
My name is Avrey Steiner. I am a freshman infielder/utility player from Fowler, Ohio, majoring in accounting at the Gies College of Business. We are going on week 12 here on campus and softball is winding down as Thanksgiving break is approaching. We are ready to celebrate the holidays with our families, but we are also ready to get back to work for our upcoming spring season.
Our team has made so much progress over the course of this semester. We have all bonded and connected with one another in so many ways over these past few months. When I arrived on campus I was a little nervous to say the least, but the girls on this team made it such an easy transition! Our team is filled with many senior leaders and they continually set the best examples for all of us underclassmen day in and day out.
Being part of different sports teams throughout the years, I know it is extremely important to have each other's back and play for each other - to trust each other! We all have a common goal to have a successful season which includes finding out how each of us contribute to that goal. Last week, my awesome roommate, Kailee Powell, mentioned that our team has a drill called "double whiff" that we were in the process of mastering. I am happy to report that WE NAILED IT this week! I know we have all grown a ton through the struggle of this task. I really think this is a significant moment for our team and many good things are coming our way.
I am beyond excited for all of our awesome Illini softball fans to see what we have in store this year! I really think that the bond our team has created and the work ethic we have established is something very special. It is the 20th season of our softball program and I think this year is going to be one to remember! I cannot wait to see everyone at Eichelberger Field for our home opener. As always, I-L-L!
