WINDERMERE, Florida – Fighting Illini men's golf opened play at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, firing a team total 2-under par on the Par 72, 7,544-yard course at Isleworth Golf and Country Club. The Orange and Blue were led by junior Michael Feagles who shot 3-under par for the day. Three Illini sit among the top 15 individuals as Feagles is joined near the top of the individual leaderboard by freshman Adrien Dumont de Chassart (-2) and junior Bryan Baumgarten (-1).

Vanderbilt sits atop the team leaderboard with a total score 12-under par. Auburn (-4) and California (-4) round out the top three teams. The Illini are tied at fifth overall with Florida (-2). Tomorrow's second round begins at 7 a.m. CT, and the Illini will tee off beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT.

"We're proud of the way that the guys came back after a rough start to today's round," assistant coach Zach Barlow said. "Michael Feagles played pretty solid all day, he and Adrien {Dumont de Chassart} had some strong play on the back nine that really got the momentum going. We're looking to carry that into tomorrow's round right from the beginning."

Tied for seventh individually, Feagles opened the day with a birdie on his first hole. He was 1-under par at the turn, using a late birdie to negate a bogey on the sixth hole. Feagles carded two more birdies on his back nine to finish strong for the Orange and Blue.

Dumont de Chassart also finished strongly on Sunday, as he recorded four birdies on the back nine, all coming in a stretch of five holes. He is 2-under par on the day and tied for 11^th overall.

Baumgarten shot even par on the front nine on Sunday, picking up momentum after the turn. He added three birdies to his tally on the back nine, which helped to negate two late bogeys.  He is tied for 15^th individually with a total score 1-under par.

Junior Giovanni Tadiotto shot 4-over par on Sunday, and finished his round with two birdies in his last three holes. He is tied for 54^th overall. Sophomore Brendan O'Reilly is 6-over par heading into tomorrow's second round.

THE TOURNAMENT

Held at Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Florida, the three-day, 54-hole event is hosted by Central Florida and West Virginia. Teams will play 18 holes each day, October 21-23, on the Par 72, 7,544-yard course at Isleworth Golf & Country Club, with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat, and a recap will be posted on FightingIllini.com at the conclusion of each round.

Recognized as one of the premier collegiate events in the country, the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational welcomes the nation's top teams each season. The 2018 field is no different, as the tournament will welcome seven teams ranked among the top 30 in the country according to Golfstat. In addition to the eighth-ranked Illini, the field includes No. 12 Texas, No. 13 Vanderbilt, No. 18 Arizona State, No. 21 South Carolina, No. 22 Auburn, No. 25 LSU, No. 26 California, No. 46 UCF, No. 48 North Texas, No. 51 West Virginia, No. 52 Florida, No. 55 Texas Tech and No. 60 Washington.
