CHAPEL HILL, N.C.  – The University of Illinois women's tennis team fell to the No. 5 University of North Carolina Tar Heels, 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Illini move to 3-1 this season.

Doubles play saw UNC earn an early advantage in the match. The Tar Heels grabbed wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions to go into singles play up 1-0.

North Carolina took the first set on all six courts, but the Illini continued to fight in their respective second sets. UNC's No. 38-ranked Sara Daavaettil topped freshman Mia Rabinowitz, 6-1, 6-2. Fellow-freshman Emilee Duong fell to Alexa Graham, 6-3, 6-2, on court five. No. 11-ranked Makenna Jones clinched the match for North Carolina with a 6-4, 6-4 win over junior Jaclyn Switkes.

Up next, the Illini will take on the Texas Longhorns on Friday night at the Atkins Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5 pm.

Head Coach Evan Clark's Thoughts

"Obviously, this was not the result we wanted today, but credit to North Carolina as they played very well and are one of the best teams in the country. We certainly had some chances in doubles and a few spots in singles, but could not close the door. When you play a team like UNC, you have to take advantage of the small windows they give, so we will look to do that versus Texas on Friday."
