
Soccer Falls in Big Ten Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fighting Illini soccer dropped its Big Ten Opener to Ohio State on Thursday, 7-0. The Buckeyes took an early lead with a goal in the third minute of play and worked to build the lead throughout the game. Illinois moves to 3-6-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Big Ten play.
Illini senior Kara Marbury led the Illinois offense posting two shots on goal in the match. Junior Lauren Ciesla and sophomores Arianna Veland and Kelly Maday also added shots for Illinois, in addition to freshman Maggie Hillman.
Ohio State got off to a fast start Thursday evening, tallying three goals in the first 24 minutes of play. The Buckeyes took a 4-0 lead into halftime, and quickly continued to extend their lead after the break with a goal in the 53rd minute. Ohio State outshot Illinois 17-6 and put 11 shots on frame.
Illinois will continue its road stretch at No. 8 Penn State on Sunday. The match is set for a noon kick and will be live streamed on BTN Plus.
