URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois women's tennis team will travel to Indiana and Purdue this weekend. The Fighting Illini square off with Indiana on Friday, April 7, at 3 p.m. CT, and then will face Purdue on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
"We're excited about the weekend," said head coach Evan Clark. "Another two great opportunities in the Big Ten. I think both teams are very good and they get up for us like any other team in the Big Ten so we need to be ready to go."
The Illini continue their four-game road trip after traveling to Iowa and Nebraska last weekend. The Orange and Blue defeated Iowa, 5-2, and then dropped the match to Nebraska, 5-2. The Illini look to improve on their 9-10 record. Indiana's record stands at 11-9 heading into the match against Illinois. Purdue enters the weekend with a 5-11 record and they take on Northwestern before facing the Illini on Sunday.
"I think the team's mindset is that we still got a lot left to prove," Clark said. "There's still a lot of tennis left in the season and we certainly have a lot of opportunities left ahead of us. So, we need to focus on one match at a time, and we certainly feel like we've got some goals that we want to reach that are really reachable, attainable at this moment."
IN THE RANKINGS
Indiana's doubles pairing of Madison Appel and Kim Schmider currently rank 60 in the ITA Rankings.
