BALTIMORE – Fighting Illini men's golf shot 1-under par as a team on Saturday to maintain its lead at the 2017 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships. Sophomore Edoardo Lipparelli led the Orange and Blue, as he closed the second round 4-under par to pull into the individual lead. All five Illini currently sit among the top 25 individuals, and the team is 12-under par through two rounds of play. Purdue and Northwestern join Illinois among the top three teams, both with total team scores 8-over par.

"I was very proud of our young players today," head coach Mike Small said. "It was a good team effort, again. We weren't as sharp today, as a team, as we were yesterday; we had a few unforced errors that we need to clean up. The way the freshmen finished and the way Edoardo {Lipparelli} played today was the key to the day. I'm very proud of them for that. They stepped up and took care of business."

Lipparelli started the day off strong for the Illini, posting a birdie on his first hole. He added three more birdies on the front nine, helping to negate two early bogeys. Lipparelli made the turn at 2-under par before carding birdies on the 10th and 12th holes. He is 5-under par through two rounds, one stroke ahead of junior Dylan Meyer. Meyer is 4-under par through two rounds of play and currently in second overall after shooting 3-over par on Saturday.

Junior Nick Hardy and freshman Giovanni Tadiotto are tied for seventh individually, both sitting 1-over par through two rounds of play. Tadiotto closed the day 1-over par, tallying two birdies for the round, while Hardy shot 4-over par for the second round.

Freshman Michael Feagles is tied for 24th overall after scoring 1-under par in the second round. Feagles shot even on the front nine and added a birdie after making the turn. He recorded consecutive bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes, but recovered with a birdie and an eagle to finish the round. He is 4-over par through two rounds of play.

The final round is set for 7 a.m. CT tomorrow on the 7,181-yard, Par 70 Five Farms East Course at Baltimore Country Club. Illinois tee times are slated to begin at 7:45 a.m. CT.
