Columbus, Ohio – Fighting Illini men's golf sits just one stroke off the lead at Robert Kepler Intercollegiate after a 12-over par team score on Saturday. Junior Dylan Meyer and freshman Michael Feagles are leading the squad individually, both sitting 3-over par in a tie for second. In all, four Illini currently sit among the top-15 individuals. Kent State sits atop the leaderboard with a team tally 11-over par, and Iowa also sits among the top three teams after a two-round score of 25-over par.
"I was very happy with the second round today," head coach Mike Small said. "It was a total team effort and I'm very pleased with that; shooting 2-under in par in these conditions and on this golf course was a solid effort. This morning we came out and played loosely through the first 10 or 12 holes as a team, and that put us behind the eight ball, but then to come back this afternoon was great."
Both Meyer and Feagles both started the day with 3-over par first-round scores. Meyer carded three birdies on the back nine, while Feagles added two of his own. Meyer picked up the pace to start the second round, recording a birdie on the second hole. He added two more birdies on the back nine, shooting even par in the second round.
Feagles also started the second round on a hot streak, notching consecutive birdies on the second and third holes. Two early bogeys put him back to even par at the turn. He used a pair of birdies on his back nine to finish the second round at even par as well. Meyer and Feagles are just one shot back from the individual lead, which is held by Kent State's Chase Johnson.
Sophomore Edoardo Lipparelli joins Feagles and Meyer among the top-15 individuals as he is tied for 13th overall with a total score 5-over par. After a first-round tally 6-over par, Lipparelli carded three birdies in the second round for a 1-under par score.
Freshman Giovanni Tadiotto is just one stroke back from Lipparelli as he is tied for 14th overall.  Tadiotto started the day with a birdie on his first hole, but shot 7-over par through one round. He continued on to add five more birdies in the second round for a 1-under par score. He is 6-over par through two rounds of play.
Junior Nick Hardy is tied for 28th individually with a total score 9-over par, while freshman Bryan Baumgarten is tied for 53rd individually as he is 15-over par through two rounds of play. Hardy led Illinois through the first round of play, carding two birdies for a total score 2-over par, before shooting 7-over par through the second round.Â
