Round 2 Results |Â Live Scoring
LAS VEGAS – Fighting Illini men's golf continued play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Tuesday, as junior Nick Hardy and freshman Michael Feagles lead the squad after two rounds of play. Both Illini climbed several spots on the individual leaderboard to move into a tie for 16th. As a team, Illinois shot 9-over par on the day and is holding the No. 8 spot on the leaderboard with a total tally 11-over par. USC (-7) and Stanford (-1) maintained their spots at the top of the leaderboard, while Oklahoma State (-1) joined the two teams among the top three.
"The course played difficult today, but very fair," head coach Mike Small said. "We didn't have the ball control with our short irons that we needed to play a solid round. We had two guys play good golf, but college golf is a team sport and we need more consistency throughout the lineup."
Feagles led the Illini on the day with a second round score 1-under par. The freshman carded two birdies on the front nine before making bogey just before the turn. He quickly negated that with two birdies in his next three holes, however. Feagles shot 1-over par on Monday for a two-round tally at even par. Â
Hardy also kicked off the second round of play with two birdies on the front nine. He added another on the back nine, which helped to negate late bogeys on the day.
Junior Dylan Meyer and sophomore Edoardo Lipparelli both closed the day with scores of 5-over par. Meyer is currently 5-over par for the tournament, tied for 36th individually, while Lipparell is just one stroke back, tied for 42nd.
Playing as an individual, freshman Bryan Baumgarten posted a score of 7-over par through the second round for a total tally 8-over. Freshman Giovanni Tadiotto also closed the day at 7-over par for a total tally 16-over.
The final round at the Southern Highlands Collegiate begins tomorrow, March 8, with tee times starting at 11 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available on Golfstat, and a recap will be posted on FightingIllini.com at the conclusion of the tournament.
Hosted by UNLV, the Southern Highlands Collegiate is held on the Par 72, 7,510-yard course at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Illini join 10 teams ranked among the top-25 according to the latest Golfweek Sagarin rankings in the field, including No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 7 USC, No. 9 Texas Tech, No. 10 Stanford, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 17 UNLV, No. 23 San Diego State, No. 25 Arizona State, No. 34 Pepperdine, No. 48 New Mexico, California, SMU and TCU.
