MONTREAL, Canada -Ā Senior Illini gymnast Tyson Bull came up big at the 47th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, placing 23rd on horizontal bar with a score of 13.400. Ā

"We are super proud of Tyson for qualifying and competing at the highest level of our sport," head coach Justin Spring said. "He represented the Illini nation well and showed that he is one of the best horizontal bar competitors in the world."

The Australia native was one of five gymnasts on the Australian national team to compete at the World Championships, which were held from Oct. 2-8. The other members of the team included Clay Mason Stephens, Michael Mercieca, Mitchell Morgans and Christopher Remkes.Ā

Bull is the first Illini gymnast to compete at the World Championships since Paul Ruggeri in 2015.

"It was an incredible experience for me," said Bull. "Having the opportunity to train and compete with and against the world's best was incredibly humbling and has given me the hunger and drive to get back on the world stage again. The memories and friends I made in Montreal are some that I will never forget."
