Illini Fall on Road to No. 25 Hoosiers

Hill, Coleman-Lands each score 21 points, but Illini fall to 11-5 overall, 1-2 in Big Ten

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Malcolm Hill and Jalen Coleman-Lands each scored 21 points in Illinois' 96-80 loss at No. 25 Indiana on Saturday. 

Illinois was scoreless for the first 6 minutes of the game, during which time the Hoosiers (11-5, 1-2) jumped out to a 15-0 lead. Indiana led for the entire game, and was up by as many as 22 points. Illinois pulled within 9 points of the Hoosiers with less than 6 minutes remaining in the game, but Indiana stretched its lead one final time.

Maverick Morgan finish with 18 for Illinois (11-5, 1-2). James Blackmon Jr. scored 25 points, Thomas Bryant finished with 20 for the Hoosiers. 

The Illini shot 57 percent in the second half (17-of-30), and Hill scored 19 of his 21 in the second stanza after sitting most of the first half in foul trouble, but it wasn't enough to climb out of the 19-point halftime deficit.

Illinois returns home to State Farm Center to host Michigan on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 8 p.m. CT. 

ILLINOIS POSTGAME NOTES

Malcolm Hill moved into 10th place on the Illinois all-time scoring list, finishing the game with 1,544 points and moving past Andy Kaufmann (1,533) for 10th place. 

• With 21 points, it was Hill's fourth straight game over 20 points. Nineteen of his 21 points came in the second half. He played only eight minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. 

• Indianapolis native Jalen Coleman-Lands hit 5-of-8 from behind the arc and finished with a season-high 21 points. 

Maverick Morgan hit 6-of-9 field goals on the way to 18 points, the fifth time in the last six games he's scored in double figures. 

• Illini freshmen Te'Jon Lucas (6 pts, 4 asst. in 15 minutes) and Kipper Nichols (4 pts, 4 rebs in 11 minutes) both saw extended minute and brought energy off the bench. Lucus had a team-high +8 plus/minus rating.
