NORMAN, Okla. – Recent Fighting Illini graduates, Alex Burge and Charlie Danielson, have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, as announced today (July 20) by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The honor is the second for both Burge and Danielson in their careers.
The two Illini are among 212 Division I student-athletes to receive the recognition. In order to be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
A 2016 PING All-America First Team honoree, Danielson holds Illinois single-season stroke average record after closing the season with a 70.67 stroke average. He garnered two tournament titles this year, finishing among the top-10 in all but one event. Burge was awarded the inaugural Tom Cousins Award at the East Lake Cup this season, and was a finalist for the 2016 Byron Nelson Award. He earned three top-25 finishes this season.
