The 2001 Fighting Illini football team celebrated the 15-year anniversary of their magical season over the weekend in Champaign-Urbana. Over 40 player and staff from the 2001 outright Big Ten Champs got together, including head coach Ron Turner and NFL veterans Dave Diehl, Kurt Kittner, Brandon Lloyd and Tony Pashos, among many more.
Highlights of the 2001 Fighting Illini
• Outright Big Ten Champions
• Participated in 2002 Sugar Bowl vs. LSU
• Ranked No. 12 in final AP Poll
• 10-2 overall record, 7-1 in Big Ten
• Perfect 7-0 at home
• Two road wins over ranked teams (#20 Purdue, 38-13, and #25 Ohio State, 34-22)
