Eugene, Ore. – FIghting Illini senior Charlie Danielson was honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Tuesday as he was recognized as a PING First-Team All-American. Danielson has earned All-America recognition all four years of his career, and is the first Illini to do so. He is one of just 10 student-athletes in the nation to earn First-Team All-America recognition.
The Osceola, Wisconsin, native is in the midst of a successful season that has seen him place among the top five in nine tournaments, taking medalist honors at two events. Danielson tied for eighth individually in the stroke play portion of the NCAA National Championships. Danielson currently leads the Orange and Blue with a 70.7 season stroke average, and he was recognized as a finalist for both the Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year Award and the Byron Nelson Award. Danielson will represent the Illini and the United States at the Arnold Palmer Cup this June.
