Members of the Illinois softball team are writing a blog, which will be published throughout the 2015-16 school year. Follow all the action of Coach Perry's inaugural UI squad right here at FIGHTINGILLINI.com. Along with writing, the 2016 seniors will also be video blogging their installments.
Hello Fighting Illini Fans!
My name is Remeny Perez and I am a senior majoring in communications from Orange County, California. Everyone's eyes always seem to widen when I say that. 'Why would you come to the cold when you're from California?!' Well, lots of reasons….and each reason has made this journey 100 percent worth every negative degree winter day I had to face these last four years.
Right now we are in the beginning stages of what will be my last Big Ten season as a Fighting Illini student-athlete. It hits me randomly just how fast my time here has gone. I will be the first to admit it is no lie when they say time flies when you are having a blast. I knew that coming to the University of Illinois that I would be set up for nothing short of success after graduation. No matter what state I find myself in, I am constantly hearing "I-L-L," and replying with "I-N-I." When people hear you are a part of the Fighting Illini family, they have this pre-conceived notion that we are brilliant, hard working, competitive individuals. It is because we are and are constantly working toward achieving the status that so many before us have set behind in their legacy.
I could go on forever about the unforgettable memories, values, and lessons that I have learned throughout my career. But one in particular that our amazing coaching staff has ingrained into my soul includes the ability to be process oriented- in softball, in relationships and friendships and in life in general. It is all about the journey that pushes you towards greatness in the bigger picture. The more I thought about life as a process, the more I found myself winning in every aspect of life-regardless of the outcome. The person I am constantly striving to be has everything to do with my coaches and teammates. These women have made more of an impact on my life than they will ever know. Times get tough, things take a turn for the worst, school gets hard, and sometimes it all seems to happen at the same time, but nothing is impossible to get through when you have the women by your side that I do.
Our unbreakable bond creates the foundation we need to accomplish each and every goal we have set for ourselves and then some. I can tell you right now regardless of the game's outcomes, we are leaving it all on the field. We all came here to do really B1G things. And there is no stopping till we get some rings.
Now, I'm super excited to have you all tune in on the rest of our season! It will not be one to miss out on. With all of this being said I will finish off my speech with two words that will forever be tattooed on my heart and soul:
Go Illini!
Remeny
