Stewart clocked a 13.65 time to place third, while Smyers-Jones improved on her 14.01 Baldy Castillo time to place fourth with a time of 13.94. The duo will look to continue their success this weekend with prelims on Saturday at 11:50, followed by the final at 3 p.m.
High Jump: After tying for 12th at NCAA Indoor Championships three weeks ago, Illini junior Kandie Bloch-Jones makes her outdoor debut this weekend. The junior owns the third-best mark in Illini history with a 6'0.5" (1.84m) clearance at the Rankin Invite last spring and has her sights set on the school's 6'1.25" (1.86m) school record. After two appearances at the indoor national meet, the Argenta, Illinois native is seeking her first NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance.
