CHARLESTON, S.C. – Illinois Women's Tennis picked up a non-conference victory on Wednesday, March 23, afternoon over the College of Charleston in a 4-0 decision. The Orange and Blue secured the doubles point and went on to win matches at Nos. 4-6 singles to win the contest. UI improves to 6-6 while the Cougars fell to 13-9 with the loss.

The Illini doubles tandems got the Orange and Blue on the board first in the non-conference matchup. Alexis Casati and Daniela Pedraza Novak secured their match at No. 3 first, by a score of 6-3, over the College of Charleston's Fieldsend and Zschunke duo. Illinois primary tandem in the No. 3 slot improved to 8-2 in dual decisions on the third court with the victory. Just moments later, No. 46 Louise Kwong and Ines Vias claimed their No. 1 match by the same margin to improve to 7-2 on the dual season.

Finishing out the match, the Cougar's McAmis and Nyikos took down the Illini's tandem of Jerricka Boone and Madie Baillon 6-3 at No. 2.

UI has now won the doubles tally in 10 of its 12 matches this season. The Fighting Illini have racked up a combined 23-8 record on the doubles courts in 2016.

Baillon was quick to take care of business at No. 4 singles, winning her match in straight sets. The Illini junior was victorious over the Cougars' Sarah Jane Jones by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Baillon is now 8-3 in dual contests. Freshman Jaclyn Switkes finished her play at No. 5 soon after, securing a 6-2, 6-1 win. Switkes improved to 3-1 in dual play.

With a 3-0 lead, the Illini were in good shape. Despite trailing 4-5 in the first set at No. 6 singles, Jade Hilton pulled out the 7-5 victory in the set. The Illini sophomore jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set and held on for the decisive 6-1 win to secure the match for the Fighting Illini unit. Hilton is now 2-0 in dual action this season.

The top three flights went unfinished on the afternoon. Casati, Vias and Boone represented the Orange and Blue on the top courts, respectively.
