Fighting Illini senior Malcolm Hill was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on Monday after leading Illinois to a pair of wins on the opening weekend of the 2016-17 season. Hill shares player of the week honors with Indiana's James Blackmon Jr.
» Hill dominated the opening weekend of the season, averaging 30.5 points and 10.0 rebounds on 56 percent shooting from the field, including 50 percent from 3-point range win wins over Southeast Missouri and Northern Kentucky.
» Hill scored a career-high 40 points vs. Northern Kentucky on Sunday, equaling the fifth-highest scoring game in school history and topping his previous career-high of 39 points set last season at Penn State in a double-overtime game.
» He made 13-of-23 from the field against NKU, including a career-high 5 three-pointers on eight attempts.
» While becoming just the sixth Illini player ever to join the 40-point club, it marked his 22nd career 20-point game.
» Hill also recorded his eighth career double-double against the Norse, grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds.
» Hill opened the season with game highs of 21 points and 8 rebounds vs. Southeast Missouri on Friday.
» Shot 55.9 percent (19-of-34) from the field, 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from three-point range and 84.2 percent (16-of-19) from the free throw line in the two games.
» Hill did most of his damage in the second half of both games, scoring 16 of his 21 against SEMO and 29 of his 40 vs. NKU after intermission.
