CHICAGO – Fighting Illini Men's Golf shot 10-under par through two rounds of play at the 2016 Northern Intercollegiate on Sunday to sit at the top of the tournament field. Illinois boasts six individuals among the top 15, including junior Nick Hardy and sophomore Edoardo Lipparelli who also sit atop the leaderboard with total scores 4-under par. Marquette (+29) and Indiana (+30) round out the top three teams overall.

"I thought it was a solid day on a good, solid golf course," head coach Mike Small said. "I saw a lot of bright spots; Edoardo's (Lipparelli) 5-under in the morning round was huge, it got us off to a good start. Nick (Hardy) also played solid all day. But to have this many guys at the top of the leaderboard shows that it was a solid team effort."

Hardy shot 3-under par through the first round of the day, recording four birdies overall. He added another three birdies during the second round, negating two bogeys on the front nine. Lipparelli started the day out strongly recording an eagle on the seventh hole. He also carded four birdies in the round, negating a late bogey and heading into the second round with a total of 5-under par. The sophomore started the second round out with some difficulty on the third hole, but used back-to-back birdies on the back nine to recover.

Playing as an individual, freshman Giovanni Tadiotto sits in third overall with a total score 2-under par. Tadiotto shot 1-over par in the first round of the day, using four birdies to negate a few bogeys. During the second round of play, he posted three consecutive birdies on the front nine to close the round 3-under par.

Junior Dylan Meyer currently sits just outside the top three as he is in fourth overall with a total score at even par. Meyer shot 2-over par through the first round and went on to close the second round 2-under par. Meyer started his second round of the day with a birdie, adding four more throughout the round.

Freshman Bryan Baumgarten is currently 2-over par after two rounds of play and in a tie for sixth individually. Baumgarten was 1-under par through the first round, as he recorded three birdies on his front nine. He added another on the back nine, negating three bogeys in the round. Baumgarten shot 3-over par in the second round of the day.

Freshman Michael Feagles shot 6-over par through two rounds to sit in a tie for 11th overall. After a 7-over par first-round score, Feagles birdied his first two holes of the second round. He added two more birdies for a 1-under par second round tally.

Tied for 39th, sophomore Trevor Gold is currently 15-over par. Golf id playing as an individual in the tournament.
