Pacific Palisades, Calif. – The Fighting Illini had a tough run at the Riviera ITA Women's All-American Championships, as Louise Kwong and Ines Vias fell in their prequalifying draw matches, and their prequalifying consolation matches on Saturday and Tuesday.
Kwong, ranked No. 85 in singles and entering as the No. 4 seed in prequalifying, fell to Florida's Spencer Liang in an incredibly long and hard-fought match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Liang would eventually advance to the qualifying draw by winning all four of her prequalifying matches.
In consolation play, Kwong was defeated by Ferny Angeles Paz of Ohio State, 6-2, 6-2.
Winthrop's Lauren Proctor topped Vias in prequalifying, 6-2, 6-2. In consolation play, Vias fell to Aiwen Zhu of UNLV, 6-4, 6-1.
The two Fighting Illini form the No. 25-ranked doubles tandem, and played in doubles qualifying as the No. 3 seed. Kwong and Vias faced Virginia Tech's pair of Elena Cerezo-Codina and Carolina Daxhelet. The Hokies prevailed, 8-6.
