Illini Gymnist Earns Second All-America Honor At 2000 NCAA Championships

Romagnoli takes second on high bar and Oka takes eighth on vault.

IOWA CITY, Iowa - University of Illinois men's gymnast Travis Romagnoli ended his collegiate career on a high note Saturday afternoon, placing second on high bar for his second All-America honor of the weekend.

The senior scored a 9.8375 on high bar for second place behind Michael Ashe of California who won with a 9.90. Junior Leo Oka competed in the event finals on vault, placing eighth with a 9.50, two spots shy of All-American status.

Romagnoli ends his career as a two-time NCAA national champion, nine-time All-American, 1998 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, member of the 1998 all-Big Ten team, three-time Academic All-American and three-time Academic All-Big Ten team member.

The Illini finished the 2000 season ranked eighth in the nation.
