CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -Ā Fresh off claiming the 2015 Big Ten Tournament Championship, the Fighting Illini men's tennis team was selected as the No. 4 seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Illinois will host the First and Second rounds, welcoming Green Bay, Drake and Louisville to the Kahn Outdoor Tennis Complex at Atkins Tennis in Urbana on May 8-9.
"We're very honored to be able to host once again," head coachĀ Brad DancerĀ said. "I'm thrilled that this group of guys will be playing in front of the home fans one more time. There is nothing like the support of the Net Nuts and the Illini community. We're looking forward to the challenges ahead and playing in front of our home fans."
First round action will take place on Friday, May 8, starting with Louisville vs. Drake at 1 p.m. CT. Illinois vs. Green Bay will then follow at 4 p.m. The winner of those two matches will square off on Saturday, May 9, at 3 p.m., to advance to the NCAA Championships in Waco, Texas.
The Illini are 41-18 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, reaching at least the Sweet 16 in eight of Coach Dancer's 10 years at the helm. Today's announcement marks the 20th straight season the Orange and Blue will be appearing in the 64-team field. Illinois will enter postseason play with a 25-4 overall record and the winners of nine of their previous ten matches. The Illini went 13-1 at home this season.
Ticket prices for the First and Second rounds will be $5 for adults and $3 for students and can be purchased at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex starting one hour prior to the first match each day. One ticket is valid for one admission to all matches on the day the ticket is purchased. Spectator parking is available east of the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex off of Goodwin Ave. Spectators can enter the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex from this lot.
