Carly Thomas then made it 2-0 Illini with a sacrifice fly.
Vecvanags retired the first 11 batters she faced, before Tierney Bottino looped a single into shallow left center with two outs in the fourth. Lia Romeo followed with a single to center, but Bottino held up at third, and the Illini caught Romeo rounding first on a great heads-up play from Thomas to Gunther to Bauch to end the inning and preserve the 2-0 lead.
