CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The third-ranked Illinois Men's Golf team will be back in action this weekend at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Hosted by Purdue University, the tournament will be played on the Kampen Course, which is a 7,465-yard, Par 72 course ranked among the top-10 collegiate courses in the country.
The Boilermaker is set to begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. The final round will be played Sunday, also with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. The Illini will be one of 15 teams in the tournament field, joining Purdue, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Northwestern, Kent State, Miami-Ohio, Indiana, Ball State, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Wisconsin, Louisville, Georgia Regents and Southern Illinois.
"We're looking forward to be playing this weekend after an off week and making our push into the championship portion of our season," head coach Mike Small said. "Purdue is a great event to help us warm up for the Big Ten Championship. It's a hard golf course; it requires some precision, some shot making as it has some penal holes. We're playing back up north for the first time all spring; it's really the first time we're playing near home. We're looking forward to it and having this propel us to the Big Ten Championship next weekend.
After a weekend off, the Illini are coming off of a second place finish at the 3M Augusta Invitational with a team score 23-under par. Senior Brian Campbell led the Orange and Blue, earning a 3rd place finish thanks to an 11-under par performance overall. Both Thomas Detry and Charlie Danielson joined Campbell among the top-15 finishers as the two shot 8-under par and 4-under par, respectively.
