ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Fighting Illini women's tennis team could not get much going against No. 12 Michigan in Ann Arbor, on Sunday, March 29. Michigan claimed the Big Ten win by a 6-1 mark over No. 66 Illinois. The Illini moved to 7-9 overall and are still seeking their first conference victory.

Doubles on court one finished up first as Michigan's 12th ranked Najarian/Bektas duo defeated Melissa Kopinski and Louise Kwong by an 8-3 decision. Play on the third court finished next as Alexis Casati and Grace Tapak lost by a reading of 8-1. Jerricka Boone and Madie Baillon were trailing No. 58 Lee/Yurovsky 6-3 when the doubles point was clinched by the Wolverines.

Kopinski played at No. 1 singles for the Illini by fell to No. 26 Yurovsky 6-3, 6-1. Michigan's Lee took the match on court three over Kwong in straight sets of 6-2, 6-4. The Michigan victory on court four over Tapak secured the victory for the hosts. Tapak fell to a 7-5, 6-4 defeat.

All matches would finish as court six concluded next when Baillon fell in a pair of 6-4 sets. Casati put up a fight on court two but No. 23 Bektas would take the decision by a 6-4, 7-6(6) reading.

Boone denied Michigan of the sweep as she took down the Wolverines' Mire Ruder-Hook by a line of 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(10). The win was Boone's sixth singles win on the season.

The Illini return home this week as they host three matches. On Thursday, March 2, Long Beach State comes to town for a 5 p.m. showdown. Saturday Illinois will host Maryland in a noon contest and on Sunday Rutgers will visit Urbana for a 10 a.m. match.

"Spring break was painful and did not go as we envisioned, but the good news is it is behind us," shared head coach Michelle Dasso. "I have a feeling we are going to shine in April."
