#14 Illini Selected to Morgantown Regional

NCAA Release | 2015 Bracket

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The NCAA announced Monday the participating teams selected to the six NCAA regional sites and the No. 14 Illinois women's gymnastics team was selected at the Morgantown Regional. The Fighting Illini, who received their 12th straight regional invite, enter as a top-three seeded team.

"The NCAA selection show is always an exciting day as you find out the six teams that will be competing in your regional," head coach Kim Landrus said. "The Morgantown Regional will display some of the best gymnastics in the country and we are honored to be a part of that. Our upperclassman competed at this regional in 2013 so there is a familiarity that they have. Even our sophomores experienced the `thrill of Morgantown,' as they came to cheer us on as seniors in high school. It's great to be seeded there once again."

Illinois is joined by the Co-Defending National Champions in No. 2 Florida, who received the No. 1 seed. No. 11 Stanford received the No. 2 seed, with the Illini selected as the No. 3 seed. Also competing in the Morgantown Regional are No. 19 Arkansas, No. 25 New Hampshire and host West Virginia.

The top two teams and the top two all-arounders (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships April 17-19 in Fort Worth, Texas. Illinois will look to punch its third consecutive ticket to Nationals and make its fifth trip in the past seven years.

Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six predetermined host sites: Ames, Iowa; Auburn, Alabama; Berkeley, California; Columbus, Ohio; Morgantown, West Virginia and Norman, Oklahoma. Each regional is made up of three seeded teams that are ranked amongst the top-18 in the nation, followed by the No. 19-36 squads that fill in the remaining three spots.

The Morgantown Regional is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT Saturday, April 4 inside WVU Coliseum.
