Champaign, Ill. - Two weeks after wrapping up the S.H. Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, the No. 1 Illinois men's golf team will travel to Palm City, Fla., for the 2015 Valspar Collegiate Invitational. The University of Houston will host the 13-team tournament at the par-72, 7,114-yard Floridian Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, March 23-24. The 54-hole stroke play event is set to begin with an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start for Monday's first of two rounds. Following the 36-hole Monday, teams will play out the third and final round on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. CT split tee start.

Following a highly competitive tournament at the S.H. Collegiate Masters, the Fighting Illini will once again join a field of distinguished golf teams at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. Eight of the 13 participating teams in the tournament are ranked in Golfstat's top-25 and five of those eight teams bear a top-10 ranking. The other seven top-25 teams competing in the Valspar Collegiate include: No. 2 Florida State, No. 5 Georgia Tech, No. 7 South Carolina, No. 10 UCLA, No. 14 LSU, No. 18 USF and No. 19 Oklahoma State. Host school No. 33 Houston, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Memphis and Kent State round out the 13-team field.

The 2015 Valspar Collegiate marks the Illini's third stroke play even of the spring season and the Illini's second consecutive appearance in the event. In last year's tournament, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and LSU all finished in the top-four. Eleven of the 13 competing teams in this year's event, including Illinois, are returning teams from the 2014 Valspar Collegiate.

Head Coach Mike Small is changing up the line up a bit, with senior Brian Campbell, junior Charlie Danielson, freshman Nick Hardy, freshman Spencer Reed and junior Thomas Detry making up the Fighting Illini lineup, and freshman Dylan Meyer teeing it up as an individual.

In addition to holding down the No. 1 team ranking in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, three Fighting Illini individuals are ranked in the top-25 - Danielson (No. 8), Campbell (No. 18) and Detry (No. 23). Hardy also cracked the top-100, checking in at No. 95.
