Senior Nnanna Egwu finished his Illinois career with 201 blocked shots, making him the most prolific shot blocker in Fighting Illini history. He broke the all-time Illinois record on Jan. 21 against Purdue, turning away a Vince Edwards dunk attempt with 3:20 left in the first half.Egwu's 201 blocks rank 21st on the NCAA active career list. The previous UI record of 177 was set by Deon Thomas from the 1991 through 1994 seasons.
A native of Chicago, Egwu played in 136 career games, earning 106 starts. He owns career marks of 750 points and 630 rebounds and is Egwu ranks fifth on the team in scoring (6.5 ppg) and second in rebounding (5.9 rpg).
He ranks third in the Big Ten in blocked shots, averaging 1.8 bpg. He tallied three or more blocks in nine games on the year, including four in his final State Farm Center game vs. Nebraska (March 4).
