Las Vegas, Nev. - The Illinois men's golf team posted a 286 (-2) in the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters to wrap up the event in sixth place with a tournament score of 858 (-6). Although the Illini shaved three strokes from their second round score, they were unable to move up the leaderboard and remained in sixth place through Wednesday's final round. The fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns won the tournament with an overall score of 838 (-26), a full ten strokes ahead of second-placed Oklahoma (848; -16). Oklahoma State and Arizona State both tied for third with 855 (-9) and UCLA rounded out the top five teams with an 857 (-7).

Fighting Illini junior Charlie Danielson signed off on the best scorecard for Illinois in the final round, finishing up with four birdies and 14 pars (-4). Danielson's 68 in the final round boosted him up ten spots on the individual leaderboard to conclude the tournament with sole possession of sixth place individually.

Freshman teammate Nick Hardy got off to a solid start, carding three birdies and three pars through hole No. 6. Hardy continued on to hit two more birdies during the remainder of the final round, but three bogeys left Hardy at two-under-par, in a tie for 23rd at the close of the final day.

Illinois' Brian Campbell and Thomas Detry both experienced slightly shaky final rounds as they both finished up the round with scores of 74 (+2). Campbell started pretty steady with three pars on the first three holes, but a double-bogey on hole No. 4 set him back to two-over-par. Campbell followed up with three birdies on the remainder of the front nine, to put him up to one-under-par at the turn. However, Campbell got back into some trouble when he marked down four bogeys while shooting on hole Nos. 13-17. Campbell did hit a final birdie on the last hole, which brought him back to +2, as he concluded the tournament in a tie for eleventh.

Meanwhile Thomas Detry started a bit slow with three bogeys through the first five holes. Detry was able to hit back-to-back birdies on hole Nos. 8 and 9 to make the turn at one-over-par, but another bogey on the back nine set him back to +2. Detry finished up his final round with three consecutive pars and he wrapped up the event in a tie for 48th.

Freshman Dylan Meyer had some trouble finding a steady rhythm in Wednesday's final round as he finished up eight-over-par (80), marking down six bogeys and a double-bogey on his third round scorecard.

The Orange and Blue now have nearly two weeks off before heading to Palm City, Fla., for the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on March 23-24.
