LEXINGTON, Kentucky- The Illinois women's tennis team traveled to Kentucky to face the Wildcats for the first away action of the season. Illinois moved to 2-1 on the 2015 season with the 4-0 loss in Lexington. Kentucky extended its winning streak to six games for a 6-1 record.
Illinois was ranked 46th in the most recent ITA Division I rankings while Kentucky came in at 26th.
At number three doubles, UK's Lewis/Lederman tandem defeated Alexis Casati and Madie Baillon by a 6-1 decision. Kentucky's #19 Ravita/Sutjiadi combination took down Melissa Kopinski and Louise Kwong 6-3. Grace Tapak and Jerricka Boone's number two doubles contest was left unfinished.
The Wildcats made quick work of the Illini on the singles slate. Number one singles finished first as Nadia Ravita downed Casati 6-0, 6-3. No. 125 Sutjiadi defeated Kopinski 6-1, 6-4. The third singles contest to finish and secure the Kentucky victory was number four singles where Mami Adachi beat Jerricka Boone 6-4, 7-5.
In the unfinished contests, Kwong won her first game by a 7-5 decision but trailed 5-1 in the second. At five singles, Jade Hilton trailed Lewis 3-2. Tapak and Brunamonti were knotted at 1-1 when Kentucky clinched the win.
The Illini will return to the Atkins Tennis Center to host San Jose State in the first contest of a five-match home stand. The Orange and Blue will face the Spartans on Saturday, Feb. 7 at noon in the Atkins Tennis Center.
