URBANA, Ill. – Following a weekend away from action, the Illinois women's tennis team returns to competition as the squad heads north for the Michigan-hosted USTA/ ITA Midwest Regional. The event will take place indoors at UM's Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Action will span six days beginning on Thursday, Oct. 22 and lasting through Tuesday, Oct. 27, when the singles main draw championship will be played.

Draws are expected to be released the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 21. Competing for Illinois in the singles qualifying draw will be Grace Tapak and Daniela Pedraza Novak. Opening action in the main draw are Jerricka Boone, Alexis Casati, Jade Hilton, Louise Kwong, Jaclyn Switkes and Ines Vias.

On the doubles side, tandems seeing action will be Kwong and Vias, Boone and Casati, Baillon and Switkes and Hilton with Pedraza Novak.

Last season, Illinois hosted the event and advanced a trio of players to the singles main draw round of 16. Kwong fell to Michigan's Sarah Lee 6-1, 7-5; Casati went up against top-seeded Emina Bektas of Michigan but fell short in the 6-3, 6-4 decision. Melissa Kopinski faced off against Northwestern's Alicia Barnett and exited after a 6-3, 6-2 loss.

Teams included in the Midwest Region are: Akron, Bowling Green, Butler, Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Youngstown State.
