CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2014-15 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors list with seven Illinois softball student-athletes being recognized. Allie Bauch, Annie Fleming, Katie Gallagher, Kylie Johnson, Hailey Pieruccini, Brittany Sanchez and Danielle Trezzo each were selected to the list.
"Our players work extremely hard every day in the classroom and on the softball field," said head coach Tyra Perry. "I am proud of the way these young women have represented the University of Illinois and the Big Ten Conference by obtaining this great academic honor."
To earn the prestigious honor, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the full academic year. It's the third-consecutive honor for Bauch and Johnson and the second-consecutive accolade for Sanchez, while Fleming, Gallagher, Pieruccini and Trezzo earn the honor for the first time.
UI joined 11 other Big Ten programs to garner Scholar-Athlete honors, tying with Indiana for second-most in the conference behind Michigan State, Northwestern and Wisconsin's league-leading eight student-athletes.
