The Fighting Illini will open Big Ten competition against conference newcomer Rutgers on Friday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. in Huff Hall. This will be the first ever meeting between the two institutions in wrestling.

Keep an eye on the 141-pound match-up against the Scarlet Knights. Illinois' Steven Rodrigues, W.I.N. Magazine's 16th-ranked wrestler, will battle Anthony Ashnault, the eighth-ranked grappler.
Sunday's dual at Indiana will be Illinois' conference road opener. The Illini lead the all-time series 45-41-1 thanks in part to a three-match win streak against the Hoosiers.

The 165-pound match-up will be the one to watch against the Hoosiers. Jackson Morse, ranked eighth by W.I.N. Magazine, will battle Taylor Walsh, who is ranked fifth. Walsh beat Morse in the semifinals of the Midlands Championships on Dec. 30, en route to winning the title.

Redshirt-freshman Isaiah Martinez is currently on a 16-match win streak and is ranked fourth by W.I.N. Magazine. The Midlands champion at 157 pounds is currently 16-0 and leads the team with 34 points scored in dual meets.
