Keiko Price Academic Update | Fighting Illini Academics
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - During the 2014 fall semester, Illinois student-athletes excelled in the classroom, combining for a 3.25 average GPA. Fifteen of UI's 19 varsity sports posted a team GPA over a 3.00, including nine teams over a 3.30. A total of 28 student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA, while 69 percent of all athletes earned over a 3.00 GPA, which are both improvements from the previous fall.
The women's gymnastics and golf teams tied for the highest GPA among all teams on campus this fall with a 3.57 mark. The women's cross country and volleyball teams followed closely behind and tied for the third-highest mark among all teams at 3.52. Men's cross country (3.45), swimming and diving (3.44), softball (3.41), soccer (3.40) and men's track and field (3.33) rounded out the teams above a 3.30 GPA.
In December, the conference awarded Academic All-Big Ten honors to 59 University of Illinois student-athletes in five fall sports. The Illini boasted a school-record 29 football players, 11 volleyball players, nine women's soccer players, five men's cross country runners and five women's cross country athletes.
Academic All-Big Ten honors are bestowed upon student-athletes who have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or higher, earned an athletic letter and are in at least their second year at their institution. Winter and spring sport student-athletes are honored following their respective seasons.
