Round 1 Results
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. - Following a victory at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational last weekend, the sixth-ranked Orange and Blue held a 10-shot lead after first round of the Wolf Run Intercollegiate before second round play was suspended because of severe weather at the par-71, 7,155-yard Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Indiana. Senior Brian Campbell (-1) shares the top spot with Miami (Ohio)'s Scott Cahill, while juniors Charlie Danielson and Thomas Detry both landed in a six-way tie for third at even par. The two competing Illini freshman, Nick Hardy (+2) and Dylan Meyer (+4), occupy the 13th and 23rd places, respectfully, in the individual standings. Freshman Spencer Reed, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 55th at posting a first-round 78 (+7).
The second round will resume Sunday at 8:30 a.m. CT and play will continue through the third round without the field being re-paired.
"It was a pretty good team effort today," Illinois head coach Mike Small said. "The veterans really played well; it was a good day. Charlie, Brian and Thomas are all playing well, so that's good to see. We threw out a 75 in the first round, which was encouraging."
The Illini recorded a team score of 285 (+1) to hold a ten-stroke lead over Florida and Chattanooga, who stand tied for second at 295 (+11). No. 15 Houston is fourth at +12, while Miami (Ohio) and Eastern Michigan are tied for fifth at +13 after 18 holes.
