CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Iowa this afternoon at the Atkins Tennis Center. After a rough start to doubles play, Illini singles players battled to keep the team in the match, but ultimately succumbed to the Hawkeyes.

The Illini dropped the doubles point with an 8-2 loss from Melissa Kopinski and Alexis Casati and an 8-4 loss from Misia Kedzierski and Allison Falkin. Louise Kwong and Jerricka Boone’s match ended at 7-4 and did not finish.

The Orange and Blue struggled early in doubles with a 6-2, 6-2 loss from Falkin followed by Kopinski’s 6-4, 6-0 loss to start. Kedzierski battled for the Illini, winning her match 6-0, 6-1 to put the Illini on the board. Kwong followed suit, defeating Iowa’s Zordani 6-4, 6-4. Casati kept the momentum going with the third Illini win of the afternoon. Unfortunately, Boone’s 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 tiebreaker loss sealed Illinois’ fate.

The Illini return to action tomorrow when they will take on Nebraska on Senior Day at 11 a.m. in Atkins Tennis Center
