OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - University of Illinois junior Jesse Delgado won his second straight 125-pound NCAA title with a 3-2 decision over No. 2 seed Nahshon Garrett of Cornell. With the win, Delgado becomes the first Illinois wrestler to win back-to-back national titles in 56 years. Last season, Delgado became the program's first-ever national champion at 125 pounds.

In the first period of the championship match, Delgado showed off his defensive skills, fending off multiple shots from Garrett. After a scoreless first, Delgado started the second period in the bottom position. He was able to escape, then followed up with a takedown to take a 3-0 lead going into the final period. The only points of the third period went to Garrett after an escape and a second stalling call on Delgado, but it wasn't enough as Delgado came away with the 3-2 decision.

The Illini finish the 2014 NCAA Championships in 13th-place after scoring 41 points. Penn State captured the team title for the fourth consecutive year with 109.5 points.
