Long Beach, Calif. - Thirty hours after the Illini's first game at the Louisville Slugger Invitational was supposed to start, Illinois finally took the field against UC Santa Barbara on the campus of Long Beach State University. Illinois scored two runs in the first inning, with the help of an RBI triple by Alex Booker, but after three innings of play, a large thunderstorm moved into the area, and the umpires were forced to call off the game. Illinois and UCSB are unable to restart the game at a later doay. Since the two teams had yet to play a full five innings, the game is not official and the statistics earned will not count.
Sunday's forecast looks promising, and should the weather hold up, Illinois will face Long Beach State at 11 a.m. PT at Mayfair Park.
