Champaign, Ill. - On the final weekend of fall competition for the Fighting Illini women's tennis team head coach Michelle Dasso's crew has notched some big wins over quality opponents at both the USTA Clay Court Invitational and the Schwartz Challenge.

The Illini picked up a pair of victories at the USTA Clay Court Invitational in Orlando, Florida on their final day of competition. Alexis Casati notched a win over Florida State's Castaneda 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) in the "A" consolation. Julia Jamieson was also able to end the weekend on a high note as she topped Stetson's Korac 7-6 (2), 2-0, ret. In the "B" consolation.

Melissa Kopinski fell to Oklahoma's Melrose in the "A" consolation draw by a line of 6-7(5), 6-0, 1-0(5).

"I was pleased with the variety and willingness to work the point today and that was much improved throughout the weekend. Finding a way to cut down on unforced errors, make our opponents earn the win, and use our athleticism and fitness to the best of our ability was a key focus for us heading into the last day of the tournament." stated head coach Michelle Dasso. "For Casati to finish the weekend with two out of three singles wins against this level of competition in the field was encouraging. I was also very happy with Julia and Melissa's decision making and composure in their tight first set tie-breakers."

Over in West Lafayette, Indiana the Illini competed in the second of three days at the Schwartz Challenge hosted by Purdue University. Illinois went 2-2 in doubles action while posting a 1-3 record in the singles competition on the day.

Jade Hilton and Jerricka Boone teamed up to defeat Gerlach and Rodriguez from Louisville 8-5 in doubles play while Grace Tapak and Madie Baillon topped Louisville's Mally/Boesing tandem 8-6 to account for the doubles victories on the day.

Hilton and Boone fell 8-3 to Purdue's Bernard-Feigenbaum/Djokovic team while Tapak and Baillon were bested by Xepoleas and Davila of Purdue 8-6.

Baillon picked up the lone singles victory for the Orange and Blue when she topped Purdue's Suarez 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (7).

Tapak lost to Tess Berard-Feigenbaum from Purdue 6-4, 7-5. Hilton was defeated by Andjela Djokovic by scores of 6-4, 6-1 while Boone fell to Krisztina Kapitany fro Purdue 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(7).

The Schwartz Challenge will conclude following a round of singles action on Sunday morning at the Basham Courts of the Schwartz Tennis Center.
