Official USGA Release
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois junior Charlie Danielson has accepted an invitation from the U.S. Golf Association's International Team Selection Committee to participate in a practice session for the 2015 Walker Cup Match. He is one of 16 players who have accepted invitations to the practice session, which will be held at Frederica Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Georgia, Dec. 17-20.
While an invitation does not guarantee a spot on the team, it does indicate strong consideration for the 10-man team that will compete in amateur golf's version of the Ryder Cup. The 45th Walker Cup Match will take place Sept. 12-13, 2015, at Royal Lytham and St. Annes in Lancashire, England.
Scott Harvey, Mike McCoy and Nathan Smith are mid-amateurs and at least two mid-ams must be a part of each Walker Cup team, according to a USGA mandate. U.S. captain John "Spider" Miller also indicated that many players not included in the 16-man practice session will be considered for the final Walker Cup team.
The Walker Cup Match is an international team competition that consists of four foursomes (alternate-shot) matches on both mornings of the two-day competition, with eight singles matches on the first afternoon and 10 singles matches on the final afternoon.
