Illinois Head Coach Tim Beckman

Opening statement:

"I'll just start off by saying with that football team, that's probably one of the hardest things I've done, going in there and talking to them, knowing that we're halfway through our football season. We're 3-3. We didn't play very well at all today. We didn't coach well today. When we lose, we lose as a team and that's exactly how we took it. We've got to regroup understanding that we've got six football games left. We've got the next quarter, which three of those are on the road. And we've got to regroup and move the program forward. We cannot dwell on what didn't happen for us, but the only way you can get this program continually moving forward is by looking forward. That's exactly what our intentions are going to be for this football program."

On what he told the team in the locker room:

"We're not stopping the run, we've got to stop the run. We're not scoring points in the red zone. We were 4-of-8 in the red zone. And then we're not kicking field goals when we need to be able to kick a field goal. We can dwell on what we're not doing well, but we've got to fix it. We've got to be able to stop the run better, we've got to be able to continue drives and score touchdowns when we're in the red zone. And then when your number is called as a kicker, you've got to be able to put it through the uprights."

On why Purdue had success after struggling a week ago:

"Tackling was one of the big things. We had a couple short yardage opportunities. We loaded the box to stop them. One was definitely a miss-hit; one of our linebackers was out of his gap. The second one, V'Angelo missed the tackle and they broke through him."

On seeing No. 12 Austin Appleby at quarterback instead of No. 5 Danny Etling:

"Appleby was one that we recruited at the other place I was at. I knew he had some great talent. He's a good football player. We knew that he would probably be seen today."

On the importance of the next couple days to rebuild confidence:

"I think it's crucial. We've got to look at what we've got and see where the problems are and fix them. That's the mark of this program and we're always in that process of we've got to attack these next 48 hours like we always do and get ourselves better."

On not seeing strides defensively:

"You've got to make the play and if you can't make the play, that's the problem and that's exactly what we had. I'm not going to point fingers at anybody, it's just when you're name is called, you've got to make the play."

WR Mike Dudek

On QB Wes Lunt:

"We connected a few times. That goes with how we practice during the week. I felt like we had a good week of practice, Wes and I both. We came out and started strong, but we just have to keep on finishing."

On being called the go-to receiver by the media:

"I don't really want to call myself the go-to guy. I feel like it's a team game. I got my number called a lot today and I tried to go out there and make as many catches as I could. The line did a good job and Reilly and Wes threw good balls."

WLB Mason Monheim

On Purdue QB Austin Appleby:

"We expected five, but 12 showed up. He played a great game, kudos to him. But we couldn't stop their run the way we should have."

On today's performance:

"This is a turning point here. I said earlier a coward's way out is to point fingers and I'm not going to let that happen. We're not going to do that, that's not the team we are. We're a family. We lose together, we win together. We're only going one way and that's forward."

RB Josh Ferguson

On today's performance:

"We approach every team the same way, it does not matter who we are playing. The reason why it's such a hard loss is because we lost at home."

On moving forward:

"I'm confident in our guys. We've been through a lot as a team, both past and present. So I'm sure we'll bounce back."
