CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - On the final day of the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional there was just one team remaining, Michigan.
Michigan held three out of the remaining four main draw spots with Notre Dame filling the other slot. With two Big Blue wins, it was an all Michigan championship.
Emina Bektas, the number one seed in the draw, took on teammate Ronit Yurovsky. Neither player was a stranger to the singles championship of the Midwest Regional though with Yurovsky winning the title last season and Bektas taking it in 2011 as a freshman.
Yurovsky came out strong in the first set and topped Bektas 6-4. However Bektas powered back at took the final two sets by 6-1 marks.
With the win, the Michigan senior will advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships from November 6-9. The event is slated to be held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
