Dasso Announces Spring Schedule

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois women's tennis coach Michelle Dasso announced the program's Spring 2014 schedule today. The slate features 12 home matches and kicks off with a trip to Hawaii.

The Illini will start the spring season with a trip to the Hawaii Invitational for a tournament being put together by the University of Georgia. Upon returning home, Illinois will host four local schools in two double-headers. On Jan. 24, the Illini will host St. Louis and Chicago. Two days later, Illinois-Chicago and Illinois State will come to town.

Three of the next four Illini matches will be on the road before Wake Forest comes to Urbana on Feb. 15. The Illini will play in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, hosted by Alabama, from Feb. 21-23.

Big Ten play kicks off against Northwestern March 8 at home before traveling to West Lafayette for a match against Purdue the next day. After the March 9 match at Purdue, the Illini remain at home for nearly a month, facing Indiana, Penn State and Ohio State at home before traveling for a weekend against Michigan and Michigan State on April 5-6.

The home schedule concludes April 12-13 against Iowa and Nebraska, and the regular season ends at Minnesota and at Wisconsin on April 18 and 20, respectively. The Big Ten Championships are being hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships are March 9-11, with the sites to be determined when the field is announced. The NCAA Championships are in Atlanta, Ga., from May 16-26.

The Illini host the Midwest Blast at Atkins Tennis Center from Nov. 1-3. Admission is free.
