CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illinois women's track and field team will compete at the Eastern Illinois University Big Blue Classic with events starting today through Saturday, March 31. The meet begins today and ends with the 4x400m on Saturday. A full schedule of competition can be found above.
"We're looking for really good marks this weekend, "head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said. "That track is fast and I'm looking to see some progression from all of our athletes. I'm looking forward to seeing what Ashley Kellycan do this weekend as well as our 4x100m relay team. Just in general, I'm looking for people making improvements."
A trio of Illini will compete in the heptathlon, including junior Kawanna Brooks, Marissa Golliday and Kristin Morrison. Senior Ashley Kelly will look to improve her time in the 100m and 200m as she's joined by nine other Illini including junior Kayla Smith who holds the second fastest 200m time in the conference (24.00). Senior Jayla McArthur and freshman Asia Thomas will compete in the 400m while nine Illini are scheduled to run the 1,500m, led by sophomore Katie Porada. Sophomore Meagan Hyneswill kick off the outdoor season, competing in the 3,000m steeplechase for the Orange and Blue.
Senior Latoya Griffithwill compete in the 400m hurdles as she holds the fastest time in the event in the Big Ten (59.05). She will also run the 100m hurdles along with three other Illini.
In the field events, sophomore Stephanie Richartz looks to set another school record in the pole vault. Other Illini to watch include freshman Kristen Wilsonin the shot put and Morrison in the javelin.
