EVANSTON, Ill. - Two members of the Illini women's tennis team opened play at the Wildcat Invitational on Friday, as fifth-year senior

Julia Jamieson teamed up to capture two doubles victories on day one of the three-day tournament.
"I was extremely impressed with Jamieson's play in her first collegiate tournament," Illini head coach Michelle Dasso said. "Due to the weather, doubles was played all day inside, and doubles in general exploits your nerves more. But from watching, I never would have thought that Jamieson is a freshman because of the way she carried herself on the court and the confidence she displayed throughout the day. This was also a great day for doubles match preparation as Lambropoulos heads to All-American qualifying early next week. Both Jamieson and Lambropoulos played aggressive doubles and had very good chemistry all day."
Lambropoulos and Jamieson began the day with a victory, as the pair took down Michigan State duo Amy Barton and Olga Chernova, 8-3, in Jamieson's Illini debut. The veteran and newcomer struggled in the following round, however, losing a close 8-6 battle to South Carolina's Jaklin Alawi and Dominika Kanakova. But the Illini tandem quickly bounced back to secure its second victory of the day with an 8-6 win over Illinois-Chicago's Teona Tsertsvadze and Polina Guimaraes, 8-6. After early success, Lambropoulos and Jamieson fell in their final match of the day to Big Ten foes Alaina Trgovich and Hannah Berner of Wisconsin, 8-3, finishing the day with a 2-2 mark.
