Updated brackets & team standings 
PHILADELPHIA - 
Fourth-seeded Jimmy Kennedy (141 pounds) and seventh-seeded B.J. Futrell (133) won their second-round matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday and three Illini remain in the tournament with Eric Terrazas (149) alive in the consolation bracket.
With his two wins on Thursday, Kennedy moved into ninth place on the Illinois career wins record list with 117, passing Brian Glynn. His next victory will tie him for eighth place with Steve Marianetti.
Futrell shot in and took down Utah Valley's Flint Ray off the opening whistle for a quick 2-0 lead at 133. He surrendered a penalty point on a violation or locked hands as he tried to keep control of Ray then nearly got near-fall points as time wound down but he couldn't keep hold of Ray in an exposure position, taking a 2-1 lead to the second period with 2:32 of riding time. Futrell chose a neutral start to the second period before shooting in and nearly pinning Ray, instead settling for three near-fall points and a 7-1 lead. Ray escaped after a restart and the pair ended the period on their feet with Futrell holding a 7-2 margin and 3:22 of riding time. Ray chose a neutral start to the third period and Futrell scored a quick takedown before the Wolveirne escaped. Futrell shot in and scored again and Ray escaped. They ended the bout neutral, with Futrell adding the riding-time point for a 12-4 major decision to advance to the quarterfinals.
Kennedy scored a takedown against Virginia Tech's Chris Diaz with 1:50 left in the first period at 141 and Diaz escaped, but he had to take injury time when the pair bumped heads with 52 seconds left in the first period. Neither man scored again in the period as Kennedy took a 2-1 lead into the second period. Kennedy started down in the second and escaped in three seconds to go ahead 3-1. Then he shot in and got a leg on the edge, brought Diaz back inside the circle and turned the corner for a takedown. He hooked a leg turk and a crossface for three near-fall points before looking for the pin, which he recorded in 4:43 to score bonus points and move on to the quarterfinals.
Terrazas and No. 5 seed Jamal Parks (Oklahoma State) traded tie-ups through the first period of their bout at 149 as they went scoreless to the second. Parks started down in the second and escaped after 18 seconds to take a 1-0 lead. The pair ended the period on their feet and Terrazas started down in the third. He drew a stalling warning against Parks and broke free after 40 seconds to tie the bout 1-1. Terrazas shot but Parks dodged him and circled behind for the takedown with three seconds left for the 3-1 win, sending Terrazas into the consolation bracket.
Jackson Morse gave up a takedown to North Carolina's Corey Mock with 1:40 left in the first period at 157 but he escaped 27 seconds later. Mock scored another takedown and Morse escaped after 12 seconds as the Tar Heel took a 4-2 lead. They ended the period on their feet and Morse started down in the second. He escaped after 35 seconds and got in on a leg but Mock countered and wrestled through for the takedown and a 6-3 margin. Morse escaped with 25 seconds left in the period and shot in on a double-leg but Mock fended it off and the pair ended the period neutral. Mock started down in the third and reversed Morse after 30 seconds to go ahead 8-4. Morse escaped and tried a throw-by but Mock defended it and scored the takedown for a 10-5 advantage. But Morse escaped and scored a takedown to get within 11-8 after he cut Mock go with 30 seconds left. He got in on a leg but Mock earned a stalemate with 13 seconds left. Morse scored a takedown on the edge with four seconds left but Mock added the riding-time point for the 12-10 win to end Morse's tournament.
West Virginia's Matt Ryan got in on a leg against Tony Dallago near the two-minute mark at 184 but the action was stopped for being potentially dangerous. Dallago then tried to shoot in to a fireman's carry but Ryan blocked it and grabbed his ankles for a takedown on the edge with 25 seconds left. Ryan rode him out and Dallago started down in the second. He escaped in 25 seconds, cutting Ryan's lead to 2-1, and he got in on a leg but Ryan fended it off. Dallago reshot and Ryan circled behind, gaining control just as time expired to take a 4-1 lead to the third. Ryan started down and escaped quickly to incrtease his margin to 5-1. Dallago had to take injury time after getting his neck tweaked in a scramble on the edge, but he returned to action quickly. Dallago tried a funky move that ended up with him getting put on his back for a five-point move as time expired and Ryan took the 10-1 major decision to end Dallago's tournament.
