EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman
Tim Kopinski captured a second-round singles victory at the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday and teamed up with classmate
Ross Guignon to advance to the championship match of their doubles flight.
In singles action, Kopinski took down Wisconsin's Jack Larsen, 6-4, 7-6, to put himself in the semifinals of his flight. Fellow newcomer Guignon did not fare as well, however, dropping a 7-6(4), 7-6(4) thriller to DePaul's George Chanturia.
In doubles play, the Illini pair captured a convincing 8-2 win over Wisconsin tandem Austin Akers and Jack Larsen, marking their quickest victory of the tournament.
Guignon and Kopinski will return to action tomorrow morning for the final day of the Wildcat Invitational.
